A new Wisdo study examined how member sentiment changes with engagement on the platform and whether those changes are associated with reductions in loneliness, depression, and anxiety.
In this study, we analyzed more than 80,000 de-identified community messages from Wisdo members over a three-month period, using Natural Language Processing (NLP) to assess changes in sentiment related to mental and physical health. We then examined how those sentiment changes correlated with validated clinical measures of depression, anxiety, loneliness, and mental health–related quality of life.
The study found that:
- A 52% increase in positive sentiment after three months, indicating that members spoke more positively about their mental and physical health the longer they engaged with Wisdo.
- A 116% improvement in sentiment related to counseling services, including therapy, suggesting that peer support on Wisdo can help reduce stigma associated with seeking professional mental health care.
- A strong association between increased sentiment and reductions in depression, anxiety, and mentally unhealthy days, indicating that as members’ sentiment improved, their mental health symptoms also improved.
